Apple will face a privacy lawsuit from a French startup lobby

According to a statement from France Digitale, the country’s leading startup lobby, the data protection watchdog CNIL will file a lawsuit against Apple on Tuesday over possible violations of European Union laws. While iPhone owners are asked if they are willing to allow installed mobile applications to gather a key identifier used to identify campaign advertising and submit targeted ads, France Digitale believes that default settings allow Apple to execute its own targeted ad campaigns without specifically asking iPhone users for their permission. Apple’s monitoring feature, according to the lobby, helps it to share the data it receives with affiliated organisations without informing consumers.
