Facebook announced on Friday its content moderation policies saying that Politicians’ posts will not be exempted from the company’s rules. It also announced that Trump’s account will be suspended for two years effective from its suspension date Jan 7. Specifically, Facebook said that politicians’ posts will be considered as the posts like any other user. The announcement made by Facebook has changed its decision to uphold free speech & that it need not necessarily be the arbiter of truth. During the U.S. 2020 elections, the company made a controversial decision of allowing politicians to run several ad campaigns although it might contain misinformation. Anyone violating Facebook’s community standards will be suspended based on the severity of public figure’s violations, their influence over the public & the severity of violence. The severity of the violation will decide the term of suspension. In certain extreme cases, the account will be disabled permanently.
