Government asks WhatsApp to take away its controversial Privacy Policy

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology once again asked WhatsApp to take away its privacy policy which has been sparkling controversies since December, last year. The Ministry reiterated that the manner of introducing changes in the form of FAQ undermines the sacrosanct values of informational privacy, data security and user choice for Indians thus, harming the rights and interests of Indian citizens.

For now, Germany has banned the update over privacy concerns and the company has not enforced it in the country. The MeitY has flagged this issue of ‘discriminatory treatment’ in its communication to the messaging App. The MeitY has also conveyed to WhatsApp that the privacy policy is in violation to the existing Indian laws and rules.
