India’s e-commerce investment rules need not be modified, according to Amazon.

According to two sources familiar with the talks, Amazon asked the Indian government on Thursday not to amend e-commerce foreign investment laws until inquiries into its market practices were completed. For weeks, New Delhi has been considering revising the laws governing e-commerce foreign investment. The last time they were updated, in 2018, it prompted Amazon and Flipkart to restructure their corporate models and strained India-US trade ties. Amazon has said it “does not give preferential treatment to any seller on its marketplace,” and that it “treats all sellers in a fair, transparent, and non-discriminatory manner”.
