Video streaming platforms should be held responsible for the content- India

On Thursday, India’s technology minister said that video streaming providers must be “responsible and accountable” for their shows and films, defending regulations enacted last month to govern such content. The rules come at a time when digital media or over-the-top (OTT) sites like Amazon Prime Video and Netflix are facing increasing complaints in India regarding indecent content and religious sentiments. OTT (over-the-top) content is delivered to viewers via the internet. “India is tolerant and will remain tolerant,” Prasad said. “But the limits of tolerance and standards of tolerance should not be judged on the creating freedom or abuse of a particular producer of an OTT platform.”
